Neighbor-Aid awards further $185,000
in grants for emergency aid
Special fund has distributed nearly $800,000 this year
Neighbor-Aid, the emergency fund created by The Pittsburgh Foundation in partnership with the United Way of Allegheny County, has awarded a further $185,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations that are struggling to meet the needs of families and individuals in hardship as the result of the economic crisis.
On Tuesday, April 14, 2009, all four of the Pittsburgh stations came together to produce and unprecedented television program. Through their cooperation and talents, “Keeping the Promise” aired simultaneously on each station at the same time. The program detailed the ambitious undertaking known as The Pittsburgh Promise. The Program focused on the remarkable ways that the Promise is helping to transform the future for our children, our city and our region.

The Sprout Fund, a supporter of innovative ideas and grassroots community projects, will release a new book on April 17th, “Making of Connections”, documenting civic innovation across Southwestern Pennsylvania.The regional anthology tells compelling stories about civic leaders and citizen volunteers who constructed public art icons, cut environmental pathways, recorded regional lore, and heightened social responsibility in 2008. The book was authored by Justin Hooper and features local photographers.

We invite you to tune in to an unprecedented television event. All four major local television networks – KDKA, WTAE, WPXI and WQED – have joined to produce a 30-minute program about The Pittsburgh Promise, called Keeping the Promise. The program will be broadcast simultaneously by all four networks on Tuesday, April 14, 7:30 – 8:00 p.m. and will focus on the remarkable ways that the Promise is helping to transform the future for our children, our city and our region.
